For your pet to experience the most peaceful transition at the end of life, we will follow the following process:
Dr. Luddy will come to your home and help your pet begin to relax with the first shot. The first shot is a pain medication and sedative, which allows your pet to relax. At this time Dr. Luddy will remind you what to expect after your pet has passed and will often place a catheter. Unless you request to make payment prior to our arrival, this will also be when we can take a few moments to confirm the cremation choice, sign the forms, and take care of the payment.
When all family members, including your pet, are ready Dr. Luddy will give the euthanasia solution. This will put your pet to sleep in the most humane and peaceful way possible. After your pet has passed, we will help with the final process. If cremation was elected, they will be cremated at Koefran Cremation Service in Sacramento, California.
If you choose group cremation, Koefran will scatter their ashes on private property in the Sacramento Valley Delta or the Sierra Nevada Foothills.
If you choose individual/private cremation, your pet’s ashes will be returned to you in 2 to 3 weeks. Ashes are returned in a cedar wood urn with a memorial card unless you elect to utilize one of Koefran’s specialty urn options (http://www.koefran.com/catalog).
How can I be sure that the remains I receive are from my pet?
Koefran Services uses an identification tag that is filled out by the animal hospital. This tag stays with the pet until the pet is cremated. During the actual cremation the identification tag is removed and attached to a clipboard on the cremation unit. When the ashes are removed, the identification tag goes back with the remains and is then transferred to our boxing room where a memorial card with the pet’s identification number replaces the original identification tag. At this time, the urn is boxed and labeled for shipment back to the animal hospital.
